Victor Osimhen continued his stellar debut season in Turkey by scoring twice in Galatasaray’s dominant 4-1 win over Sivasspor on Saturday, setting a new personal goal-scoring record in the process.

The Nigerian striker struck in the 15th and 31st minutes at the Ali Sami Yen Sports Complex RAMS Park, taking his season tally to 33 goals across all competitions, surpassing the 31 goals he netted during his standout 2022/23 campaign with Napoli. A third goal was ruled out for offside by VAR, denying him a hat-trick.

Osimhen’s performance once again highlighted his growing influence at Galatasaray since joining on loan from Napoli. In just 37 appearances, he has contributed 41 goal involvements (33 goals and 8 assists), making him the top scorer in the Turkish Süper Lig with 24 goals.

The match itself was decided in a dramatic first half. Lucas Torreira opened the scoring for the hosts in the 9th minute, followed by Osimhen’s clinical brace and a goal from Barış Alper Yılmaz in the 21st. Sivasspor’s only goal came from Rey Manaj in the 33rd minute. Despite being substituted after 70 minutes, Osimhen had already done the damage.

Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk praised his star forward, calling Osimhen “a rare talent” and commending his work ethic and determination. “We are fortunate to have him,” Buruk added. With 83 points from 32 matches, Galatasaray are now eight points clear of Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce and are also through to the Turkish Cup final, positioning themselves for a potential domestic double.

Osimhen, reflecting on his record-breaking season, said: “Breaking my own record is special, but I’m more focused on helping the team win trophies.” The Nigerian Football Federation also celebrated his achievement on X, recognizing his continued excellence abroad.
