A Sabo-Yaba Magistrate’s Court in Lagos has discharged Naira Marley, whose real name is Abdulazeez Fashola, and his associates in relation to the death of Nigerian artiste Mohbad. The court’s decision was based on the advice of the state’s Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP), which found no evidence linking Naira Marley to Mohbad’s death.
Magistrate E. Kubeinje, who read and implemented the legal advice, said that Naira Marley, music promoter Samson Eletu (alias Sam Larry), Owodunni Ibrahim (alias Primeboy), and Mohbad’s manager, Babatunde Opere, had no case to answer. The court acknowledged that an unlawful assault was carried out by Naira Marley and his associates on Mohbad, but it couldn’t rise to the point of criminal responsibility.

Mohbad had previously withdrawn his complaint against Naira Marley over assault, stating the matter had been settled amicably. Instead, the court ruled that nurse Feysayo Ogedengbe and Ayobami Sadiq should be prosecuted for Mohbad’s death due to alleged recklessness and negligence. They will face charges for reckless and negligent acts, contrary to Section 251(e) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. The case has been adjourned until March 24 for further updates.
