A multinational ride-hailing company, Bolt, has reacted to the killing of a 22-year-old Nigerian driver, Isaac Satlat, in Pretoria, South Africa, describing the incident as tragic and deeply distressing.
Satlat was attacked on Thursday night while working. He was reportedly assaulted, hijacked, and strangled. His body, along with his vehicle, was later found several kilometres away in Moshongo, Attridgeville, on the outskirts of Pretoria. The horrifying incident gained widespread attention after dash cam footage of the attack surfaced online.
The young driver was a student who had been preparing to graduate next month. He was also planning to relocate to Canada to continue his education, making the circumstances of his death even more heartbreaking for family and friends.
In an official statement, Bolt expressed sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to Satlat’s loved ones. The company acknowledged the circulation of the disturbing video and the public concern it has sparked. It stated that it is cooperating fully with law enforcement authorities and will provide any information necessary to aid the investigation and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

Bolt also announced that it has launched an internal review to examine the circumstances surrounding the attack. According to the company, further safety and enforcement measures will be introduced if needed to enhance protection for drivers and users on its platform. However, it declined to provide additional details, citing the ongoing police investigation.
Meanwhile, police in Gauteng have arrested two suspects—a man and a woman—in connection with the murder. The female suspect was arrested first and is facing charges of carjacking and murder. She is expected to appear before the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court. Authorities later confirmed the arrest of a second suspect believed to have been involved in the crime. A third suspect is still being sought, and investigators have appealed to the public for any information that may assist in locating the individual.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue gathering evidence and preparing for court proceedings.
