Nigeria and Angola have officially agreed to waive visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations. The agreement was signed on Sunday, February 15, 2026, during the 39th Session of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Representing their respective countries, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and Angola’s Foreign Minister, Tete António, endorsed the pact. Tuggar described the agreement as long-awaited and emphasized its importance for facilitating seamless movement of government officials between the two nations

.“This agreement lays the groundwork for closer cooperation,” Tuggar said. “When officials can travel without restrictions, it opens the door for private sector engagement and broader collaboration.” He expressed hope that in the near future, ordinary Nigerians and Angolans would also be able to travel freely between the countries, highlighting the deep fraternal ties that unite the two nations.

Tuggar also reflected on the historical significance of Addis Ababa, recalling the influential speech delivered there by the late Nigerian leader, Murtala Muhammed, which played a pivotal role in shaping Africa-Angola relations decades ago. Signing the agreement in the same city, he noted, added symbolic weight to the occasion.

He concluded with optimism about the future of bilateral relations, affirming confidence that the partnership between Nigeria and Angola would continue to grow stronger.
