Abuja – The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Bagudu, has highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of Nigerian children through sustained investments aimed at their growth and development.
This statement was made during UNICEF’s World Children’s Day event held in Abuja, where the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, emphasized the importance of respecting and safeguarding children’s rights as fundamental to building a just and caring society.
Despite the ongoing security and economic challenges facing Nigeria, Bagudu expressed optimism about the future of Nigerian children. He addressed national concerns following the recent kidnapping of students from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State. Bagudu assured that President Tinubu remains focused on long-term strategies that support children and improve teacher education.

“I want to reassure our children that, despite current difficulties, a brighter future awaits them. We envision them surpassing us all. Our President, Asiwaju Tinubu, is a strong advocate for investing in both children and teachers, ensuring they receive the necessary support for their development,” Bagudu stated.
He also called for prayers for the abducted students and all children held captive worldwide, urging global leaders to treat child abduction as a grave humanitarian issue requiring united action.
In her address, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu reflected on the 2025 World Children’s Day theme, “Listen to Children: My Day, My Rights,” reminding Nigerians of their shared responsibility to protect and empower every child. She stressed that children are not only future leaders but active contributors to society today.
“Listening to children gives us valuable insight into creating safer, more inclusive environments. We must renew our commitment to ensuring every Nigerian child grows up with hope, confidence, and the freedom to fulfill their potential,” she said.
