Legendary musician Innocent Idibia, better known as 2Baba, has named Burna Boy as Nigeria’s number one artist at the moment, describing him as the “leader” and “senior” of his generation.
The ‘African Queen’ crooner made the remarks in a recent interview on Urban Radio, Enugu, where he was asked about the future of Nigerian music and what it takes to become a lasting legend.
“On a personal level, Burna Boy is my number one,” 2Baba said. “Although I still have other artists that I admire. But personally as an artist, Burna Boy is my number one right now. Among all the others I am referring to, he is the senior.”
He acknowledged that the country’s music scene is overflowing with talent, mentioning the likes of Wizkid, Davido, Tiwa Savage, Asake, Omah Lay, Rema, Adekunle Gold, and Olamide. “You see my problem, right? It just keeps going on and on. We have so many superstars out of one country. Yo!” he said.
According to the veteran singer, different artists have taken different approaches to reach the top. Some, he noted, are powered by sheer hard work; others lean toward commercial appeal; while a few remain rooted in raw, unique artistry. “And all of these people are at the top,” he added.
2Baba also hinted that new acts are emerging to challenge Burna Boy’s dominance, though he still sees the Grammy winner ahead of his peers for now. “There are still other ones that are coming up behind him that I see them going to the same level,” he said.
