Nigerian media personalities Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi and Tolu “Toolz” Oniru have shared their thoughts on the shocking breakup between music icon 2Baba and actress Annie Idibia, a couple whose love story spanned over a decade despite numerous public controversies.
Speaking on their YouTube show Off Air, they expressed disappointment over the situation, particularly the timing and manner of the announcement.
Gbemi emphasized the challenges Annie has faced recently, highlighting her struggles during the Netflix reality show Young, Famous & African, where she was often excluded and relentlessly trolled for her behavior and appearance. “Just when it seemed like she had enough to deal with, her husband—or soon-to-be ex—ended it all by leaving her,” Gbemi lamented.
Toolz was particularly critical of 2Baba’s decision to publicly announce the separation. She argued that the couple should have handled it privately, especially given the backlash Annie was already facing. “It didn’t need to come out now. People get divorced privately all the time,” she said.
Toolz expressed empathy for Annie, describing her as someone who deeply loved 2Baba. She added, “When she’s going through something really public and people are attacking her, it’s not nice to just come and announce that you’re divorcing her during that period.”
