The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the postponement of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration to Monday, February 3. Initially scheduled to begin on Friday, January 31, the registration was delayed to accommodate essential adjustments to the board’s registration templates.
Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Advisor, made this announcement in a statement shared via the board’s official X handle. He explained that the decision was necessitated by multiple factors, including the suspension of certain law programmes in some Nigerian universities and the approval of deceptive facilities as Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.
The Council for Legal Education recently suspended the Bachelor of Laws programme for the 2025/2026 academic session in eight universities. These institutions include Kwara State University, Malete; Bingham University, Karu; Redeemer’s University, Ede; Western Delta University, Oghara; Taraba State University, Jalingo; Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo; Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike; and the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil.
According to Benjamin, JAMB discovered that some CBT centres had secured approval using fraudulent means. As part of efforts to maintain the examination’s integrity, the board is conducting further investigations to disapprove such centres.
Acknowledging the potential disruptions caused by the postponement, JAMB apologised to prospective candidates and stakeholders. The board assured the public that the additional time would be used to refine the registration process and ensure a seamless experience for all participants.
To assist candidates in preparing for the registration, JAMB advised them to obtain their National Identification Number (NIN) and a unique phone number that has not been previously used on its platform to generate profile codes.
Beyond the registration timeline adjustments, JAMB unveiled The Lekki Headmaster by Kabir Alabi Garba as the recommended text for the Use of English paper in the 2025 UTME.
The examination body also provided updates on other critical timelines. The expression of interest for the 2025 mock UTME will close on February 23, while the main registration is set to end on March 5 across all accredited CBT centres nationwide. The mock examination is scheduled for April 5, while the main UTME will take place from April 25 to May 5.
For Direct Entry candidates, the sale of application documents will commence on March 10 and conclude on April 7.
