President Bola Tinubu has extended heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and countless admirers of Mike Ejeagha, a veteran highlife musician, folklorist, and one of Nigeria’s greatest songwriters in the Igbo language. Ejeagha passed away on Friday at the age of 95 after a prolonged illness.
In a statement released on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Ejeagha as a cultural icon whose music and distinctive storytelling preserved and promoted Igbo traditions. Tinubu noted that Ejeagha’s unique style inspired generations and upheld the rich cultural heritage of Nigeria’s southeast region.
“May the spirit and values of Gentleman Mike Ejeagha’s music continue to remind us that music has the power to revive, heal, and redirect energy towards worthy causes that help build our nation,” President Tinubu said.

He also commended the Enugu State Government, led by Governor Peter Mbah, for honouring the legendary musician during his lifetime.
Ejeagha’s eldest son, Emma, confirmed that the music legend died peacefully at 32 Garrison Hospital in Enugu on Friday evening around 8 pm.
The President prayed for God’s comfort to all mourning the loss and for eternal rest for the departed soul of Gentleman Mike Ejeagha.
