The management team of social media personality Michelle Mukoro, widely known as King Mitchy, has withdrawn its earlier statement announcing her death, confirming that she is alive and currently in stable condition.
The development follows days of intense online controversy involving the content creator and activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly called VeryDarkMan. The situation began after King Mitchy shared news of a rapid renovation project in which she transformed a rundown school within six days. She presented the effort as evidence that genuine commitment could drive swift and meaningful change.
However, some observers interpreted parts of her remarks as indirect criticism of VeryDarkMan. In response, he accused her of being used to polish the public image of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The disagreement escalated further when VeryDarkMan alleged that Seyi Tinubu was financially backing Mitchy’s charitable initiatives.
The claim quickly gained traction online, triggering heated arguments across social media platforms and intensifying scrutiny of the influencer’s activities. Amid the backlash, King Mitchy stated that persistent online attacks had led to the loss of her business Instagram account, compounding her distress.
The situation reached a critical point during a live broadcast on Friday. In the emotional session, Mitchy appeared visibly upset and was seen consuming what viewers believed to be bleach. Audience members expressed alarm in real time, urging her to stop and seeking help as the incident unfolded.
Shortly afterward, her management released a statement on her Instagram page announcing that she had died. The post claimed she passed away at Prime Care Hospital in Abuja and that medical personnel were unable to save her despite efforts to revive her. The statement also appealed for privacy for her family during what it described as a period of mourning.
The announcement sparked widespread shock and sympathy. However, it was soon contradicted. Prime Care Hospital promptly issued its own statement denying any involvement. The hospital clarified that King Mitchy had neither been admitted to its facility nor died there. It described the report as entirely false and stated that it was working with authorities to trace the origin of the misinformation. The hospital also warned that it would pursue legal action against those responsible and urged the public to verify information through official channels before sharing it.
In a subsequent update, Mitchy’s management reversed its earlier position, confirming that she was alive and recovering. The brief message reassured followers that she was stable, bringing relief after hours of confusion and speculation.
Meanwhile, Seyi Tinubu also addressed the allegations linking him to the dispute. In a statement shared on Instagram, he dismissed claims that he was involved in any feud or that he had threatened VeryDarkMan. He explained that he had met King Mitchy only once in a public setting alongside others and had provided financial assistance to support her non-governmental organisation, as part of his broader philanthropic efforts.
According to him, a follow-up meeting had been scheduled to review the impact of the donation, but it did not take place because he had been unwell. He firmly denied any private meetings, secret arrangements, or inappropriate dealings with the influencer.
Seyi Tinubu further criticised VeryDarkMan for allegedly dragging his name into a conflict he said he had no role in starting. He expressed concern that the situation was being used to tarnish his reputation without evidence. Emphasising that supporting charitable causes should not be misconstrued, he argued that public donations to NGOs were neither criminal nor scandalous. He also maintained that repeating unverified accusations does not make them true.
The episode has sparked broader conversations about online accountability, the rapid spread of misinformation, and the emotional toll of digital harassment. What began as a philanthropic announcement evolved into a highly charged public dispute, culminating in confusion over the influencer’s well-being.
For now, King Mitchy’s management insists that she is recovering, while the various parties involved continue to defend their positions amid ongoing public scrutiny.
