Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles have been drawn into Group D of the 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN) alongside defending champions Senegal, Congo Brazzaville, and Sudan. The draw ceremony took place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, Kenya.
Originally scheduled for 2024, the tournament has now been postponed to August 2025 but will still be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. This marks the Super Eagles’ return to the biennial competition after a six-year hiatus, sparking optimism among fans.
Group Highlights:
- Group A: Joint-hosts Kenya, 2018 winners Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, and Zambia. Kenya and Morocco will clash in the tournament opener.
- Group B: Hosts Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, and Central African Republic, the latter having eliminated Cameroon during qualification.
- Group C: Hosts Uganda, Niger Republic, Guinea, and two wild card teams to be decided by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
- Group D: Nigeria, Senegal, Sudan, and Congo Brazzaville.
The tournament, exclusively for players in local leagues, provides a stage for emerging talents. Fans eagerly await the competition, which will determine Africa’s next local football champions.
