Nigerian music sensation Burna Boy has made history by becoming the first Nigerian artist to receive five career Grammy nominations in album categories, solidifying his status as one of Africa’s most internationally acclaimed musicians. His 2025 album, No Sign of Weakness, is nominated for Best Global Music Album at the 68th Grammy Awards. It competes alongside projects by Siddhant Bhatia, Youssou N’Dour, Shakti, Anoushka Shankar featuring Alam Khan and Sarathy Korwar, and Brazilian legends Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia.

This marks Burna Boy’s fifth consecutive album nomination, following African Giant (2019), Twice As Tall (2020), Love, Damini (2022), and I Told Them (2023), highlighting his sustained impact on the global music scene. Additionally, Burna Boy earned a second nod in the Best African Music Performance category for his hit single “Love.”

The same category also features other prominent Nigerian artists such as Davido and Omah Lay for their collaboration “With You,” as well as Ayra Starr and Wizkid for “Gimme Dat.” Other nominees include Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin’s “Hope & Love” and South African star Tyla with “Push 2 Start.”

Omah Lay, whose real name is Stanley Omah Didia, responded to his first Grammy nomination with excitement but expressed a laid-back attitude toward awards. Posting on Instagram, he revealed that while he is happy about the recognition, he is not overly concerned about winning. Instead, he expressed support for Davido, describing him as a loyal friend who stood by him during difficult times. Despite four previous Grammy nominations, including two in the Best African Music Performance category, Davido has yet to win.

The 2026 Grammy Awards ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. The event will be broadcast globally on CBS and streamed on Paramount+.
