Bharti Airtel has reached a significant global milestone, surpassing 650 million mobile subscribers and becoming the world’s second-largest telecom operator by customer base. In Nigeria, the company has aggressively expanded its network infrastructure, growing from just over 13,000 sites three years ago to nearly 17,200 today, adding more than 1,560 sites in the past year alone. This expansion strengthens capacity in high-traffic areas and brings high-speed connectivity to previously underserved regions.
Airtel is also progressing with plans for a second submarine cable internet breakout point at Kwa Ibo in Akwa Ibom State as part of the 2Africa cable system rollout.
