The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced on Sunday that first-leg knockout matches involving Middle Eastern clubs would be postponed following recent strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran.

The postponement affects all three of the AFC’s major club competitions, including the Champions League Elite, the confederation confirmed in Kuala Lumpur.

“In light of the evolving situation in the Middle East, matches in the West Region originally set for March 2–3, 2026, will be rescheduled,” the AFC said. It added that it is closely monitoring developments and prioritizing the safety of players, officials, teams, and fans.

Among the postponed fixtures is the high-profile clash between Qatar’s Al-Duhail and Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahli. Other affected round-of-16 Elite games include Dubai-based Shabab AlAhli against Iran’s Tractor and Abu Dhabi’s Al Wahda facing Saudi side Al-Ittihad.

Matches scheduled outside the Middle East will proceed as planned, the AFC clarified, ensuring the competitions continue in other parts of Asia despite regional disruptions.
