Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has officially inaugurated the Lagos Shopping Festival, a 72-hour non-stop celebration of shopping, entertainment, and culture. Described as Africa’s largest shopping festival, the event, which runs from December 23 to 25, 2024, is being held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
Organized by the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture in partnership with Chain Reactions Africa, the festival is designed to reinforce Lagos’s reputation as Africa’s leading hub for commerce, creativity, and entertainment. It promises an extraordinary experience, with activities ranging from shopping deals and discounts to music performances and interactive brand engagements.
In his remarks at the launch, Governor Sanwo-Olu likened the Lagos Shopping Festival to globally acclaimed events in cities like Istanbul and Dubai. He highlighted the significance of the event in showcasing Lagos as a vibrant destination for both commerce and entertainment. Writing on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, he stated, “Lagos is truly the entertainment capital of Nigeria, and this festival showcases that vibrantly. Over the next 72 hours, we are set for a whirlwind of shopping and entertainment that only Lagos can offer.”
He further encouraged locals and visitors to immerse themselves in the unique energy of Lagos in December, adding, “There’s no December like a Lagos December. I invite everyone to join in and celebrate the spirit of our great city.”
The festival features a wide array of activities to cater to diverse audiences. Vendors have been carefully selected to offer products such as fashion, electronics, beauty items, home decor, and gourmet food. Additionally, attendees can look forward to exclusive deals, product sampling, and interactive brand engagements.
For families, a Children’s Arcade has been set up, with brands like Indomie and Kellogg’s providing a safe and engaging environment under the supervision of the Lagos State Safety Commission’s marshals, caregivers, and volunteers.
The entertainment lineup includes performances from some of Nigeria’s biggest music stars, including Adekunle Gold, Wande Coal, Teni, BNXN, Young Jon, and Ayo Maff, alongside sets from top DJs like DJ Neptune and DJ Six Seven.
Attendance to the shopping arena is free, while entry to the entertainment section requires prior registration on the official website (www.lagosshoppingfestival.com) for effective crowd control.
Powered by the Lagos State Government and supported by top brands like Zenith Bank, First Bank, Guinness, and the Tolaram Group, the Lagos Shopping Festival is not just an event but a fusion of commerce and entertainment. It aims to support local businesses, create opportunities, and position Lagos as a premier destination for tourism, commerce, and celebration during the festive season.
